I learned a variety of perspectives on what life is like for women in other countries. I learned about labor, gendered experience, colonial and neocolonial forms of domination. We explored complex concepts like agency, desire, identity, and intersectionality. We discussed globalization, standpoint theory, sweaty concepts. I feel like I know everything we learned about a little bit better or rather I better understand how it all fits together into a greater context.

Sonia Ahsan · 2024 · 2024

This course was very helpful in strengthening my skills in a number of areas. I was able to really hone my writing skills, my presenting skills, and feel more comfortable interacting with and discussing longer, more complex texts and current event-based texts.

Tara Gonsalves · 2024 · 2024

I learned a lot about gender and sexuality internationally and transnationally in a way that I have not seen addressed in other WGSS classes at Barnard. It was a breath of fresh air to expand past matters concerning the United States/"Western" countries.

Tara Gonsalves · 2024 · 2024

I learned about various theories for conceptualizing transnational feminist movements, women's agency, queer theory and the state, and critiques of Western feminism.

Sonia Ahsan · 2024 · 2024

I learned about some of the core components to non-Western feminist perspectives.

Tara Gonsalves · 2024 · 2024

I learned SO much!!! Learned about all aspects of how gender, power, and sexuality intertwine transnationally, how these power structures form and adapt, and how they impact individuals.

Sonia Ahsan · 2024 · 2024

I feel like the majority of the time I was being set up to fail due to unclear expectations and unhelpful feedback on assignments. I also don't think I walked away with a deeper understanding of materials after most lectures.

Tara Gonsalves · 2024 · 2024

I learned about gender, sexuality, bodies, and labor through a translational perspective.
