Women'S And Gender Studies · Columbia University
I learned a variety of perspectives on what life is like for women in other countries. I learned about labor, gendered experience, colonial and neocolonial forms of domination. We explored complex concepts like agency, desire, identity, and intersectionality. We discussed globalization, standpoint theory, sweaty concepts. I feel like I know everything we learned about a little bit better or rather I better understand how it all fits together into a greater context.
I learned a lot about gender and sexuality internationally and transnationally in a way that I have not seen addressed in other WGSS classes at Barnard. It was a breath of fresh air to expand past matters concerning the United States/"Western" countries.
I learned about various theories for conceptualizing transnational feminist movements, women's agency, queer theory and the state, and critiques of Western feminism.
I learned SO much!!! Learned about all aspects of how gender, power, and sexuality intertwine transnationally, how these power structures form and adapt, and how they impact individuals.
I learned about gender, sexuality, bodies, and labor through a translational perspective.
i learned so much about the power dynamics of gender, sexuality in a global context.
Super great course!! Prof. Gonsalves did a fantastic job creating the syllabus, and every week was so incredibly interesting. Our discussions were rich and complex, and I found myself genuinely trying so hard on our discussion posts so that I could contribute as best I could. I learned so much, and I found myself spending hours outside of class just thinking about the discussions, trying to wrap my heard around new concepts.
more group work and movement throughout class! maybe even in class projects/brainstorming 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2024 Course: WMSTUN3915_001_2024_3-GENDER&POWERTRANSNATLPERSP : WMSTUN3915_001_2024_3 - GENDER & POWER TRANSNATL PERSP-WMSTUN3915_001_2024_3 - GENDER, SEXUALITY & POWER IN TRANSNATION Instructor: Tara Gonsalves
