This course provided me a more robust understanding of how to build and ensure equitable coproduction with communities at a range of different scales, from local collaborations to federally-led projects. Likewise, it taught me firsthand the flexibility required to build and follow-through effective collaboration.
I learned an incredible amount of knowledge on environmental justice, climate resiliency in the greater New York City area, and about the collection of data that I did not know about before.
A lot of things: participatory planning, working with data to communicate a story, working with community groups and peers
I learned so much about co-creation and the process of working with community partners to develop meaningful projects.
Origins of environmental justice advocacy; close analysis of relationships between government, community orgs, big green orgs, and academia; GIS data analysis; how drones can capture spatial imagery.
Co-creation across stakeholders attempting to support environmentally burdened communities. Learning about each stakeholder's perspectives, effectives strategies that can be implemented to ensure successful co-creation.
I would recommend this course with the caveat that it is still very much in development. It is interesting to be part of this process, and hopefully will allow for students to have a key voice in not only this course but the University as a whole as it refines it's engagement with community groups.
This class is a great way to interact with the community in an academic setting. It is not grade focused which allows for true learning and fosters a really collaborative environment.
Loved the idea of working hands on with community partners. The class exposes students to cutting edge techniques with data collecting. There was a lot room provided for discussion.
As an action-oriented course, I'd naturally recommend this class to Sus Dev students, where classes tend to lean more on theory than practical knowledge. the class will probably improve in future years as relationships with community organizations develop and the class structure is iterated on.
