I learned so much about NYC's water system and the state's history with it!
Through this interactive experience, I learned about the NYC Watershed from a personalized and local perspective. This is one of those classes that is unique to Columbia and is an experience I will never forget. I knew absolutely nothing about where NYC water came from before this course (which was probably bad!) but now I have a much more in depth understanding of the reservoir and aqueduct system as well as the stakeholders and local issues that come along with maintaining the system.
In this class, we learned how the NYC watershed system works, including its conservation program and efforts to coordinate stakeholders to manage and maintain the water system supply unfiltered.
I learned more about how the NYC water shed was constructed, key factors that were taken into consideration as well as key solutions to the problem the water resources at the Catskills. The course gave a sense of caring for water hence i developed a passion of diving deeper into water systems. The skills I gained include, water management, reporting skills, critical analysis, watershed resource management
I learned more about how policies work in terms of New York State law, which I thought was exciting. It was a nice, understandable course to think about community perspectives, science, and state.
