Read Ovid and Pliny. Very good stories and poems/letters that we read. Increased translation skills. Get course material
you cover about 30-40 lines each week. midterm and final, quizzes too but Cameron tells you about it all beforehand
Learned how to read latin very quickly, and how to analyze latin texts.
Do not expect to develop vocab/translation skills here, since you will be required to memorize her own exact translations and her own terminology.
30-70 line "readings" (translations) every class (nothing collected), quizzes (20%) and worksheets alternating every week, 3 tests (including the final) each worth 20%
Fairly difficult. A big homework assignment due for each class with the possibility of a quiz. Memorization for midterm and final (not cumulative!) but no real hard work or thinking required. Lots of extra credit and very generous grading!
Advanced grammar and translating ability
30-40 lines of translation for every class, weekly quiz, midterm, final covering second half of semester
20% 2 essays - pretty easily graded as long as you did research and formulated a cohesive argument 20% Preparation (as demonstrated by participation in class) - during class, each student takes turn translating a bit of the passage of his or her choice 30% Midterm Exam - two translations of passages on Ovid, and four grammar questions. easy to do well as long as you study 30% Final Exam - not cumulative, on Pliny, same format as midterm. About 5 hours a week on average. If there was a paper due, probably around 10 hours a week.
