I learned how to contextualize the events of the Russo-Ukrainian War within the broader context of Russian imperailism in Ukraine.
I learned a lot about the Soviet Union, and I also learned a lot about material objects--something I had never really considered before. I also learned to study history through stuff, which provided a fascinating perspective.
Excellent course, Murat did a great job selecting key topics in forming a solid understanding of the Ottoman Empire in conjunction with the macro environment.
I would say that this course is excellent for people who do not have a strong background in Ukrainian history. However, for those who already posess a background it is also useful in the sense that you will learn to contextualize the many chapters within Ukrainian history and be able to place them within the context of the many forms of imperialism that ruled over the land (Ottoman, Habsburg, Nazi, and especially Russian/Soviet).
I learned SO MUCH about approaches to material history, socialist theory, and about general history in the Soviet Union.
