I learned the seven-century long history of the Ottoman Empire, which spanned Europe, Asia, and Africa as well as the medieval, early modern, and modern period. Also, continuity and change, issues of identities and mentalities, confessional diversity, cultural and linguistic pluralism, and imperial governance and political belonging of the empire within larger regional and global perspectives over the centuries.
I learned about the history of the ottoman empire, from its beginning to its decline. I studied the complexities of ethnic groups, political entities, and social intricacies that unfolded throughout the empire.

I learned the processes and events that defined the Ottoman Empire's formation, duration, and demise. I learned how to critically engage with sources that provide information and opinions regarding the Ottoman Empire. I learned the various misconceptions and faulty theories that have defined and blemished the historiography of the Ottoman Empire over time. I learned how an understanding of the Ottoman Empire can inform our engagement and interaction with other histories and the present.
