What students said

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

I learned about many of the processes which are at work to get to the present earth -- from formation of the earth to weathering reactions.

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

A background knowledge of the history of the Earth, dating methods, the different systems on our planet (as well as others) and how they are influenced by chemistry and physics, as well as the solid, liquid, and gaseous dynamics in those systems.

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

learned about what makes planets habitable, aqueous chemistry, oxygen isotopes, radiometric dating methods, and a lot more

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

Mid-Ocean Ridge Basalts. Elements and minerals found in the crust and mantle. Slow S process and Rapid R process

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

In this class, I learned about the geochemical processes that built Earth from solar material, led to its differentiation into continents and ocean, and have maintained the UCC and surface at a steady and comfortable temperature for living. We learned how to analyze a variety of figures and graphs, particularly those measuring isotopes ratios. We also participated in Geochemistry projects at Lamont, which was super fun and gave me a taste of geochemical fieldwork.

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

The relationship between our universe and our planet, as well as the dynamics of life on Earth.

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

While it definitely is not a class you can take without putting in a lot of work for, it is worthwhile to take if you are interested in geochemistry!

Terry Plank · Fall 2021 · 2026

it is extremely difficult and the exams are nothing like the practice problems or problem sets but I think the content is interesting 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2021 Course: EESCUN3101_001_2021_3-GEOCHEMFORAHABITABLEPLANET : EESCUN3101_001_2021_3 - GEOCHEM FOR A HABITABLE PLANET Instructor: Terry Plank

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

I learned what processes and chemical occurrences allow earth to support human life.

Terry Plank · 2026 · 2026

formation of planet, organic chemistry, astro stuff, geology, plate tectonics
