Spoken Portuguese. The class has a good component of both written and spoken Portuguese. Unlike some other elementary language courses, Ana Paula's Portuguese class prepares you to engage in conversations in Portuguese.

I learned the present and past subjunctive tense. I learned a lot of new Portuguese vocabulary. I learned new sentence constructions, how to do comparatives, how to structure conditionals.

Grammar, sentence structures, insight into Brazilian culture and traditions.

In terms of language skills, I learned a great deal of Portuguese grammar and vocabulary, and was able to test out new grammatical forms in context. The exercises and topics of discussion also revealed a lot about contemporary life in Brazil (culture, health, politics, economics, etc.).

The course is very conversational. You primarily learn by speaking with other students and doing guided exercises.

Professor Ana Paula did a fantastic job keeping the class engaged at all points during the entire lesson. We were constantly learning and picking up new grammar and general language tricks!

I learned how to communicate in Brazilian Portuguese, in a way that is clear and grammatically correct.

I improved my Portuguese speaking and writing skills significantly.

I strengthened my background knowledge in Portuguese, learned how to become more fluent in conversation and writing, and was taught new knowledge in the class. The class wasn't just a study of vocabulary, but one of culture, social studies and communication. I can confidently say I learned a lot this semester and found all of it very valuable.
