Writing About Art · Writing (School Of The Arts)
We got introduced to a myriad of art pieces and had to reflect and write about it.
How to analyze and write about a work of art in a critical as well as creative way; an original way, that permits my writing to be its own standalone piece.
How to write using art as a jumping off point
I learned how to view art as an extension to my writing. I learned to appreciate art in a different way than before. While ArtHum pushed me to question the historical values and techniques of a piece, this course pushed me to question how my writing can be an art form that can benefit from previous artwork.
Take this class if you want to get up to date on all the art that is happening in NYC right now! And if you want to learn what it means to be a living and working artist today. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2023 Course: WRITUN3215_001_2023_3-WRITINGABOUTART : WRITUN3215_001_2023_3 - WRITING ABOUT ART Instructor: Eliza Callahan
I learned a great deal about amazing writers, artists, imprints/publishers. We discussed a variety of craft techniques and ideas. Were introduced to a multitude of ways of writing about/with/for/into art. We also learned a lot about the contemporary art/gallery scene. A truly great course for writers and art lovers!
Amazing writing class for those who are interested in art history or art practice. There was a lot of hands-on work and museum/gallery visits. It's not the kind of class that you can just go to and do from home/the library. You really do have to get out there to look at the art you write about.
