Advanced Poetry Workshop · Writing (School Of The Arts)
I honed the freedom to explore new frontiers of poetry and push my writing beyond its limits.
I learned an incredible amount in this course - I was challenged as a poet, pushed to grow in formal and technical terms as well as in content and subject matter, and felt that I always had a thoughtful and sharp reader in Prof. Xu.
My perspective was challenged and expanded as a person and writer by my peers' poetry and their feedback on my poems, as well as my professor's feedback and guidance.
I learned new ways of engaging with and viewing my own work, as well of that of my peers. It was a positive classroom environment in which I could grow as a writer and reader.
The advanced workshop gave me a chance to continue developing and honing my voice as well as helped me build up a portfolio for MFA applications.
I had a really great class because my classmates were so engaged and kind. I know I had a unique experience because not every class has the best group of students.
Reading peers' poems and receiving their feedback on your poems is helpful for expanding your perspective as a person and writer. I highly recommend this course, and I suggest taking the collaborative nature of the course seriously; that is how to get the most out of taking this class.
I learned how to workshop, analyze, and edit poetry
Improving giving feedback for poetry, working on my own writing practice.
For anyone looking to channel their creativity into letters and language at a serious level, this is the right class.
