Professor Matty taught me an extremely unique was to utilize our physical perceptions in as a medium to describe our experience through writing in a way I never imagined. Prior to this class I spent over 3 years as a personal trainer and implemented physical activities into my study habits as well as the way I conceptualize the writing process, but Professor Davis and the readings he assigned in class opened my eye to the relationship between body and word that I could never have imagined before. I really enjoyed how he blended physical warms up into our seminar sessions as well as the plethora of different perspective his readings provided.
How the body manifests in language, how language manifests in the body, the importance of detail and location!
I learned a lot about how to use bodily exercises and awareness of my body to inform my creative writing practice
Personally I feel what really makes this course work well is Professor Davis and his enthusiasm. The same material and even the same exercise preformed by another professor would not nearly have had the same impact on me as a student. As I mentioned earlier I am not an english major but this class made me feel more engaged and reconnected me with a love for writing. In addition Professor Davis makes himself readily available to meet with students to speak with this about the material and assignments, his insight into the the writing process was invaluable. In addition he presents really fun an engaging exercises at the beginning of each class that really help get the day started on a positive note.
