A+ = 100+. A = 94-99. A- = 90-93. B+ = 87-89 B = 84-86. B- = 80-83 etc Participation and attendance is 10%. She takes attendance! Homework and corrections is 20%. A mixture of online textbook work for completion and then Microsoft Word exercises. Also during this class we watched the movie "The Best of Youth" and "The Great Beauty" and had to write on a discussion board each week with our thoughts. Overall manageable for an intensive intermediate class, although it was a lot to keep track of (but none of it was particularly impossible, since it's just learning a language). Oral communication / Presentations is 20%. If I recall correctly the only time we had to do this is when we went to the Met to do a presentation. We had to pick a piece of artwork and talk about it for 7 minutes — memorized speech. However it was a laid-back sort of thing! And it was very fun to go to the Met as a class — we also did a guided tour of the museum with an Italian guide. Written compositions is 10%. In-class writing assignments (maybe 4 of these?), they were around 250 words each. The first few we did were no technology, dictionary only. The last was technology permitted. She would come around in class as we were writing and help correct our grammar which also boosted the grade. Quizzes is 20%. Usually a few exercises in grammar, some sort of reading and sort sort of writing. Every once in a while (I think 5 or so total) we had 350 word writing assignment. No biggie.

No more than you'd expect; perfectly reasonable. Professor Noe is a very fair grader.

Learned an entire overview of the language! Learned more grammar than I have in any Italian course before — essentially every tense and mood. Also the little quirks of the language. Prof Gozzi was really good at getting into the nitty gritty and writing everything on the chalkboard I feel like I learned so much! One weakness is that there was little motivation for me to go and look back at my corrected work. Also I always wish there was more conversation involved. However I was so astounded by how much I learned, Prof Gozzi makes these little Google Docs and finds these flowcharts and makes everything so colorful and easy to understand (in terms of conjugations, etc). Gozzi is very passionate about her students, she cares a lot. She started bringing in snacks towards the end of the semester! Really is a very attentive teacher, she remembers everything. Is a very good teacher and you can tell she puts a lot of effort into her lesson plans—she makes everything very easy to understand. However, she'll also call you out if you're not paying attention, which made me feel really guilty. I did feel really bad because she would ask me if the class was boring me lol — which it wasn't, I just have an issue with falling asleep in class. She'll also make you participate of course — this is a class you have to be 100% present for in person! But that's great for learning a language. Overall…

I love Paola! She is an incredible teacher. She was able to have us go deep into the study of italian grammar and style without being a bore. This class is two hours long but definitely not painful. She is also a classy dresser and inquires into what we do on the weekends and how we are coping with all our classes. And if she gives too much homework, we can say so, and she will cut down the load! Her tests every other Wednesday can be tricky though, and she anything but a lax grader. You really have to study. Take this class!

I can't say enough good things about Professor Noe. The course may lack structure for your taste, but don't let that discourage you from taking it. Professor Noe is a native Italian with an extremely warm and encouraging personality. She imparts a wealth of knowledge about Italian language and culture to her students. She transformed me from a reluctant student of the language to a potential Italian major. She encourages students at all levels to speak the language and improve their conversational skills. She is the most effective language teacher I have ever studied under in my life. Professor Noe corrects all of your mistakes and makes sure that you learn every bit of the material correctly, but she is fair, compassionate, flexible. I recommend her as a professor as surely and confidently as a recommend Italian as a language.

The homework is a pretty big step up from Intensive Elementary Italian, which was just worksheets. Here you have about 45 min of online exercises (including recorded speaking exercises and mini paragraphs you have to write) every day, four times a week, except on Monday the homework takes like 2 hours because you also have to write an essay and the online exercises are nearly doubled. However, none of it is too hard and if you just schedule yourself well then you'll be fine. The quizzes are also really easy, except there isn't a word bank for the vocab so make sure you memorize those. Your goal in this class should be to speak as fluently and grammatically correctly as possible and try to fix your accent, and if you get all the homework done then you'll probably get an A.

Gozzi is absolutely fantastic but also has super high standards for her class. She will call you out in front of the class if you come in late, yawn, or don't do your homework. That being said, she cares deeply about each of her students and you will end this course being able to confidently speak Italian for hours in conversations on any topic. My class was only 5 people, 2 hours long, 3x a week, and 99% of it was us speaking out loud about different topics - arguing, chatting about our weekends, asking questions about grammar, discussing stories and shows we had watched for the class, etc. It's really great practice and I got to know my classmates really well by the end of the semester. In Gozzi's mind, she's preparing you to go and live in Italy and not look like a fool, and she will answer any question you ask her very bluntly and honestly. She is also extremely professional in nature. Perks of this class include watching a lot of cool movies (Cinema Paradiso, La Pazza Gioia, etc.), getting a guided tour of the Metropolitan Museum in Italian, and going to see an Italian Met opera (although you have to pay for your own $30 ticket which sucks considering our tuition is so high). We also listen to songs and watch funny music videos a lot. I really respect Professor Gozzi and if you're taking her next semester, then you're pretty lucky. take this class! i love this woman. she is passionate and gets on your case if you slip so you get into it. she is very nice but very serious about hw and being late to class so be careful with that. but you will learn alot in a semester with her
