I learned so much Italian! Due to constant live conversation, my Italian speaking skills dramatically improved! Although I am a little shy, Professoressa Gozzi makes everyone feel comfortable and helps anyone who seeks more Italian knowledge. I learned incredible amounts of Italian culture, vocabulary, grammar structures, and use cases for words. Great class!!!

I feel like I learnt so much - the difference between the beginning of this semester and now is huge. I can participate in a nuanced conversation in Italian, when I read I can generally understand what I am reading, and I am getting much better at listening comprehension (which is the hardest for me). In this course we expanded our vocabulary enormously, learned about every major area of grammar and how it works, when it’s used, etc. We learned pronunciation and inflection. We learned to distinguish formal and informal. So many things…

I don’t think you could do better than this course with Professoressa Gozzi - it is extremely well-rounded, beautifully designed and so enjoyable.

Maria Luisa Gozzi · 2026 · 2026

We learned a lot of Italian conversational skills - vocabulary, grammar, even gesticulation. As an intermediate Italian course, it built off of the basics we learned in elementary Italian, but did not rely as much on textbook material and much more on in-class conversation.

I'm happy I chose the intensive italian path to complete the language requirement -- very welcoming and fun atmosphere is cultivated by the teacher!

This was an excellent course, but a heavier commitment as an intensive language course 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2022 Course: ITALUN2121_001_2022_1-INTENSIVEINTERMEDIATEITALIAN : ITALIANO - INTERMEDIO INTENSO- ITALUN2121_001_2022_1 - INTENSIVE INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN Instructor: Maria Luisa Gozzi

I gained a more comprehensive understanding of the use of passato prossimo, imperfetto, prepositions, as well as a review of condizionale. We learned how to use the subjunctive and conditional tenses, and I feel that I gained a lot more confidence in speaking italian with another person at my level, and writing italian compositions.

Maria Luisa Gozzi · 2026 · 2026

This course provided me with a very detailed overview of Italian grammar that I was already familiar with as well as supplementing it with a lot of new and significant details. Also, the class was successful at striking a balance between writing, speaking and comprehension skills. Having taken this class, I feel comfortable communicating a significant amount of information and ideas in Italian.

Maria Luisa Gozzi · Spring 2023 · 2026

I would highly recommend this course to anyone who has taken elementary I. It's not that much more difficult/time consuming and you acquire double as much information as you would taking intermediate – completely worth it. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2023 Course: ITALUN2121_001_2023_1-INTENSIVEINTERMEDIATEITALIAN : ITALIANO INTERMEDIO INTENSO- ITALUN2121_001_2023_1 - INTENSIVE INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN Instructor: Maria Luisa Gozzi

I learned how to use more complex grammar and write more effectively in Italian. I also learned a ton about Italian cinema and history.
