Key terms / figures / themes / events that have defined our perception of ancient Greece from the Homeric era to Alexander's conquest of Greece.

I learned a lot about perspectives that weren't always taught in class, like about women or enslaved people of Ancient Greece, and also learned how to source ancient works.

I understood the Ancient Greek timeline much better and gained additional context for my Classical studies of the Ancient Greek language. I learned to more deeply analyze ancient primary and secondary sources and to know which sections to focus on. Working on the term paper also helped me build my ability to weave a narrative of the historical content we covered and my own opinions on the topic.

The discussion session dissects the readings and is based around guided discussions that help you to properly interpret the primary sources and isolate what you need to know from them.

I learned the history of the Greek world from the beginnings of Greek archaic culture around 800 B.C. through the classical and hellenistic periods to the definitive Roman conquest in 146 B.C. with concentration on political history, but attention also to social and cultural developments.
