I gained a greater knowledge of film style, genre, and zeitgeist that existed in the 1960s - 1990s. This course allowed me to take a deeper dive into films across multiple countries and understand how the political climate affected the stories that were being told. I also enjoyed watching films from different countries and being exposed to directors I have not seen before.

My close analysis, as well as my critical writing skills in general, have both improved greatly.

I have learned a lot about different directors (and their works). The Professor talks about verticality/horizontality and the elements a lot (which I have never thought about prior to this class) so I appreciate having new angles to think about whenever I watch films now.

I highly recommend this course to any student who is interested in gaining a greater knowledge of films from the 1960s - 1990s. I saw many films from the 1960s–1990s which had been on my list for years but had never seen and or had the opportunity to analyze with such depth.

I learned how to analyze films critically from around the world between the years 1960 and 1990. Special attention was given to the different cinematic movements from around the world.

As with all of Annette's courses, you are pushed to analyze film in a way that is much deeper than just surface level. She has gifted me a way of approaching films differently than just as a filmmaker but as an analyst of film.

I learned about the films and filmmakers of a variety of countries and regions spanning 1960-1990 with a particular emphasis on post-WWII films.
