Intro Film & Media Studies · Film (Sch Of The Arts)
I learned a lot about the various elements of film, especially with regards to film history, criticism and theory.
We learned a little bit about everything that's involved in Film and Media Studies, accompanied by weekly screenings of films that exuded each week's topic.
I learned about editing, sound, avant garde, aeturship, spectatorship, perspective, digital media, cinema and what it means, and about genre theory.
This was such a great first impression of the deep and intriguing world of film. Dr. King set me up with the tools to completely transform the moviegoing experience––a vast array of technical and theoretical strategies to dissect and pick apart films into pieces. Also, we get to watch a movie every week in the theater- classroom we have lectures in. What else could you ever want in a course? 10000/10.
In course we learned everything from Lumiere to Speed Racer. Practical film techniques were covered and used to help us further understand some theories. Wonderful selection of movies to supplement the course and an overall great environment to be in.
Overview of some important topics in film theory/ studies
This course gave me the ability to identify and define elements of film form, genre, and demonstrate understanding of cinema's evolution since its inception. I also learned how to critically analyze and apply theory to films viewed during class.
Film terminology, film history, as well as a critical analysis using film theory
Film style, theories for film analysis, etc.
This course was a crash course in history, philosophy and the future of cinema. There was so much information and Dr. King is such an incredible and passionate teacher! I learned how to think critically about filmmaking/storytelling.
