Some history of finance industry in the US
The basics of the intricit system of banking and finance
problem sets long and complicated and can only be explained by TA's since they are not connected to notes or book. midterm and final. Problem sets are not part of the grade
Attendance (taken at random) - 10% Probanker project (graded for completion) - 10% Midterm - 40% Final - 40% There were no problem sets and the workload was easy, but still is not worth the professor.
Six problem sets (kinda tedious), midterm and final that are a pile of pages each but generally easy if you go over the problem sets and past exams.
2 Midterms (dropped the lowest) 1 Final Books are a great source of understanding the material although you don't really need to know them to get A. hw - easy
We had quizzes before each lecture which were pretty easy, if a little annoying, and also meant that attendance was required. Bottom 2 of 10 total (summer semester = first lecture + 10 lectures + final) were dropped, so technically this meant you could only miss 2 lectures. (20%) 4 psets, each worth 5%, which were pretty standard and usually meant doing the actual math with the models taught in lecture. A lot of calculus, skewed a little busy-work-y for the first pset but then definitely got better. (20%) A final group project which involved a bit of research into one of a few topics you could choose and give a 20-30 minute presentation which was not hard, but you had to pay attention to other presentations because every presentation topic was tested on the final (20%). A final exam which was genuinely very fair and was split between short answer questions very similar to those from in-class quizzes and long answer questions very similar to those from psets. All-around a very reasonable workload.
Midterm, final, weekly quizzes, paper (no more than 10 pages)
Nearly nothing that I did not already know from intermediate macro.
giorgio di giorgio is one of the worst professors in the western hemisphere. his classes are boring to death but the good news is that none of the notes you will take are actually relevant to the course ....the TA's try their best but the book that is recommended is even more useless to the course...in fact the only person who seems to know what is going to be on the exam is Giorgio and he makes it a point to keep it a secret. He made himself unavailable the week before the final and came to the final with less exams than there were students in the class which meant we had to sit in the final for like half an hour staring into space while the TA went to get copies. this course and professor are a DISASTER
