2 Midterm, 1 Final, harsh grading and no curve

Professor Baydil's workload is deceptive. There are only 5 assignments, but each assignment has upwards of 30 questions. It would be better if she spread them out to be an assignment every other week, but instead she forces you to do a month's worth of work in a week, and that's only if she remembers to post it on time (which is rare).

Very poor experience. The professor rarely teaches the material, doesn’t respond to emails, and overall the course feels disorganized. I’d recommend taking it with a different professor if possible.

Professor Baydil is very poor at teaching and explaining concepts during class.

2 midterms, 1 final- lowest dropped Homework- from book with extra credit, 90% buffer Attendance, 90% buffer (what the heck is wrong with her) Project- not so hard If you talk to her (she's really nice), and go to her office hours, and talk in class you can easily get an A+

I wouldn’t recommend registering for this course unless you absolutely have to. The grading is extremely harsh, and the professor takes the longest time to return assignments and exams. Required materials and coursework instructions are often uploaded at the very last minute, which makes it difficult to plan and study properly. On top of that, the professor and the department don’t handle issues fairly, and the overall course management feels inconsistent and unreasonable. For reference, the grading scale is also unusually strict (A+ starts at 97), which adds even more pressure.

Banu. Banu. Banu. The best and worst teacher you will ever have. Note: She will most likely not be able to run her class the same way. The department will probably make her grade differently. Unless someone tried really really hard, I doubt there were any Bs in her class. But for our class, which was her first class at Columbia, it was beautiful. Two midterms and a final, but she will drop your lowest out of the three. Our first two midterms were take-home, with extra credit, and many questions copied right from the book. Most of the class did not even go to the final. Homework also easy and mostly from the book with lots of extra credit. Annoying group project at the end but if you showed even the slightest amount of effort (turning in a draft), you were set. EASY EASY EASY. This class helped my GPA incredibly. For the downside, you will not learn any Stat. We spent the first month and a half on chapters 1-2. So she was stuck "teaching" the really difficult material incredibly quickly. (Today class, we will do chapters 5,6, and 7). Because of her grading policy, no one bothered to learn anything after the midterms. And since they were take home midterms, no one bothered to learn anything anyways. You're screwed for econometrics.

Homework was tedious and took 3 months to grade the first one (not a joke, we got it back AFTER the midterm iirc). But then they give up after the first one and give you 100 on the other 3. Exams were not difficult and had no particularly trick questions. But exams also took forever to come back to us.

I learned about probability, and inference models.
