Diverse thoughtful perspectives on teaching

This course covered the different facets of teaching, and encouraged us to consider how our biases and previous notions may affect the ones we teach. This course emphasised learning how to become an effective teacher.

This course challenges you to think critically about teaching. This course also provides the opportunity to listen to other people's perspectives, which may differ from yours. This course involves practice with teaching as well, which allows the student to better understand their baseline strengths and weaknesses. This is all done in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

The course went through many diverse topics related to teaching, the students that make up the classroom, and the day-to-day features that come from as well as affect the classroom as a whole. Through various exercises and discussions we received a hands-on experience of everyday classroom behaviours from a teacher's perspective.

I highly recommend this course for students planning to teach at a university and who plan to apply for academic jobs in the future. Just how difficult and nuanced teaching really is but also how many resources and strategies are out there to to help design effective courses.

Broad array of different questions and issues you have to tackle as an instructor--lecturing, grading, classroom strategies, writing syllabus, teaching philosophy, etc.

I learned about the variety of approaches to teaching and how everyone really does learn differently.

This class gave me a new perspective on what students experience throughout their academic journey by looking at it through the lens of an instructor. I learned the difference between formative and summative assessments and how to apply them in a meaningful way. I also worked on crafting my teaching philosophy, creating detailed rubrics, and understanding the nuances of micro-teaching. Also honed on my presentation skills.
