This course is exactly how it sounds. Focus on thought, consciousness, and other ontological topics

Learned about free will, color perception, etc. Extension of basic philosophy classes

I learned a lot about different ideas about the mind. I learned how to write philosophical papers and approach these concepts more effectively.

I will be brutally honest and say this class was one of the most awful classes I've ever taken. I showed up to every. single. class. I would read the articles assigned before class, look at youtube philosophy videos, and various philosophy websites to try to gain an ounce of understanding prior to class, and once Professor Fusco started to talk about the readings, EVERYTHING became even more confusing. Her ability to make a simple topic understandable is nearly close to zero. I understand she is brilliant in her field and she has a philosophy phd, but if you cannot break concepts down for an undergraduate class of non- philosophy majors, I see it as a major failure. The midterm and first paper averaged F and C-, and by the time we got our second papers back, we had a week to write our third paper due the last day of classes on Dec 7th, so there is barely time to reevaluate what we did wrong in our first papers.

i learned several different topics in the philosophy of mind. everything from mind body problem to free will and color theory. the knowledge was really expansive and in general the papers were interesting. We all did a little bit of logic in the beginning of the semester. I also learned how to write a proper philosophy essay- but this information was not taught in class and I had to educate myself and consult with other peers on how to do it properly

This course brought a new perspective on the human mind and as a cognitive science major, it ties into topics in the field like computer minds vs human minds, intentionality, sensation, vision, etc.. The philosophical perspective helps you realize there are so many ways of conceptualizing how/why we think or how our mind interacts with the world. I think it can help guide us in handling/developing future AI as it becomes a more pressing issue in society.

Knowledge of different papers as they relate to philosophy of mind.

philosophy of mind is a sort of overview of various topics in, well, philosophy of mind; mind-body problem, consciousness, perception, sensation, intentionalism, functionalism, theory of mind -- we cover a lot and its all fairly interesting.

While the content is interested, so much content blends together. We don't get discussion of bigger, overarching ideas and instead focus on very technical arguments. The professor is knowledgeable and passionate, but the objectives are hardly ever communicated. There are no review sessions or study guide for the tests, and no writing workshops for the paper, in addition to harsh grading. This class would benefit from a small discussion section so that students can ask questions in smaller groups, or even a study guide.
