Before I was usually able to verbalize my thoughts in Hindi, but I would have to resort to simple words and couldn't really capture more complicated/nuanced ideas. Now I am much more able to express myself because my vocabulary has increased immensely since taking this class, both in terms of writing and speaking. I can read much faster and write with less mistakes/hesitation. I also gained knowledge unrelated to the Hindi language specifically, as we read many articles about a wide variety of topics (movies, politics, and even tattoos).

This course is amazing in increasing overall Hindi proficiency through abundant and comprehensive materials. During the course, we practice a lot on Hindi reading, writing, speaking and listening. I have never written a Hindi paper before, but Professor Rakesh's course helps me develop a all rounded skill sets of Hindi. My Hindi is largely improved compared to how I was in Sept.

I would absolutely recommend this class! Rakesh Ji's flexible and engaging teaching style is what makes this class so fantastic. He will meet you every step of the way! If you have a busy week or aren't understand a reading or something, he will always make time to help you. He asks us every week what we want to learn about, and then changes the schedule to accommodate us. He does not center his teaching around grades but rather YOUR interests. YOU get to decide what you want to read, what topics you want to present on, how much work is too much etc. His projects and homeworks never felt like a chore because they were so clear and genuinely fascinating. We often do fun activities like listen to songs and watch movies as part of our assignment. Rakesh Ji also emphasizes participation, and this allows you to get to know your peers and create a comfortable, friendly social atmosphere. If you are considering this class (and are at the correct language level of course) then take this class! I learned how to better read, speak, and write Hindi. I am now able to write whole papers.
