I read so many poets and scholars that I had never gotten the chance to before, such as Petrarca, Guinizelli, and Ariosto. I came away with such a deep appreciation for Italian literature!

I learned about medieval and Renaissance Italian literature in the original language. We studied the progression of poetic and prosaic Italian style from Iacoponde da Todi to beyond Petrarca, especially paying attention to Dante's synthesis of religious and human-focused themes, leading to the staunchly humanist texts of the Renaissance.

This was a foundational course in Italian Literature. It started from the initial works in the Italian language to more current works. It was quite engaging and exposed me to sources I had never encountered while delving deeper in those sources I had some experience with. It vastly increased my ability to read Italian as written by these authors and was an amazing experience.

Steve Baker · 2024 · 2024

In this class I learned how to apply the Italian grammar I have learned in previous two years in readings, discussions, and my first textual analysis. In addition, atop gaining new vocabulary, I have also began to recogniser the roots of Italian words through the vernacular texts of Dante, Boccaccio, and other writers of the medieval Italy.

Steve Baker · 2024 · 2024

Prof Baker gives a solid foundation in famous early Italian literature. He also does a good job helping students to understand the texts especially when they are written in a very difficult Italian.

Steve Baker · 2024 · 2024

It is good course to improve language skills and for those who already speak to get more familiar with these older texts.
