We learn to do careful reading of primary sources written mostly by different indigenous groups of Latin America. This class was amazing both in content and dynamic!

I learned about different indigenous groups in Latin America, and I also learned how to use primary source evidence from this period to write a final research paper.

The content of this course was so enriching, and I highly recommend this course to anyone (even if they are not a history major)! All about different indigenous groups—sedentary, non-sedentary, and semi-sedentary—in Latin America from Spanish contact to approx. 1800. This included the Nahua, Maya, Mixtec, Inca, Gaurani, Mapuche, Tupinamba, Muiscas, and more. We took a social history approach, focusing our study directly on primary sources.

Learnt about the Indigenous communities of Latin America within the colonial period (1500s-1800s). The focus of the seminar is working with primary sources, with secondary source reading provided for context. Primary sources are used to understand the indigenous experience, customs, culture, ect..
