I learned various tools that will help me along my path during writing my dissertation. I also learned important skills for historians.
This course taught me everything that I needed to know to start working on my dissertation. From where to find help to how to locate sources to actually writing.
I gained the most from the visits of Profs. McCurry and Ahmed, learning about their respective journeys as academics and the passions and principles that drove their research. I found the more general sessions on how to do research and writing less helpful.
There were some interesting talks but overall I did not learn much.
I felt like I didn't necessarily learn much, but instead was exposed to so many different perspectives on how to learn from and create historical narratives. Really appreciated the spirit of this course, Line and Julia did an excellent job!
I learned valuable methods to be able to manage my time. I also learned of different methods to help the writing process.
This course offers a variety of perspectives and skills about research skills and methods. It was useful as a first years masters student. The syllabus is designed nicely and students are exposed to an array of topics and ideas.
