We learned a lot about German culture through short readings and assignments. This is a required class for the German major or concentration, but you should take it anyway if youre interested in Germany or want to improve your language skills. You get accustomed to hearing fluent German and learning in that environment (if you have not taken a class like this before). You are challenged to speak and discuss works in German, and it really strengthens your ability to use the language.
Historical and cultural contexts relating to German literature at different points in time.
An introduction to some of the major authors, texts, and movements in German literature. I learned a lot about how to talk and write about literature in German.
Different genres of german literature, but also how to do close reading in the context of specific literary intentions and devices.
I learned how to analyze German texts, as well as gaining an understanding of major works in the German canon. I learned how to discuss literature in German.
