Beyond an introduction to the Old English language, this course focused on accessing the literature/culture/world created by, invoked, and referenced in the texts. In addition to the most representative Old English texts, we read a wide range of critical secondary source material.

I learned how to translate old English and some context of early medieval England to help me understand what i was translating.

Basic reading knowledge of Old English as well as general understanding of Old English literature.

I learned so much about Anglo Saxon history and the famed works of Old English as well as the structure of the earliest form of the English language which has made me understand the language in its modern form even better.

Fascinating look into how religion, literature, identity, and Anglo Saxon culture meet

Definitely a niche course, but if you're interested in the Old English period, definitely worth checking out!

I would only recommend taking this course if you're really passionate about language and Old English history/literature, I wouldn't suggest taking it i you're looking to get the distribution requirement out of the way.
