We studied the plays Shakespeare wrote in the second half of his career, analyzing them from different perspectives: postcolonial, feminist, New Historical, etc. We wrote several interesting papers in which we articulated arguments about these works.

One play a week + 1 or 2 outside essays. Take home midterm, take home final + a 10 page paper. It all seems like a lot on the first day of class when you buy all the plays and the course reader but Dr. Di Gangi is particularly good at pacing things. He's also a very close reader and will comment profusely on just about anything you turn in. (Again, he's just really into his job.) He's a fair grader but not the sort of professor who accepts messy work particularly well. If you like to put your papers off until the night before they're due, watch out!
Light, a play a week Midterm and final with passage IDs that are easy because they're only passages he reviewed in class 2 papers, one 4-5 pgs, one 6-8, with a HUGE variety of prompts to choose from, so actually quite liberating and fun

through this course I was both able to substantially increase my abilities to critically think and analyze aspects of plays such as language, theme, and representation as well as cite specific quotations at which deeper meaning and analysis is possible.
We read many different Shakespeare plays, and learned about the different ways that they have interpreted by scholars, critics, actors, etc.. We also worked on providing our own interpretations of the text, e.g. through close readings.
