human rights framework internationally. content is bit of a long read most of the time, but honestly skimming is just as good. this class is obv very useful in our current climate of extremism, and it's also so interesting once you get into the nitty-gritty of it. would recc to anyone.

About 4-8 readings per week. 3 assignments: one 3 page midterm (outline for the final), one 4 page news analysis (to exercise media literacy) and one 10 page final (based on the midterm. You get to choose the topic for all assignments. Grading is fair.

Prof. Brown is amazing. As a human rights lawyers with incredible experience under her belt, you get to learn so much about the history and contemporary state of human rights as well as her own contributions to it. She's very knowledgeable and teaches without relying on slides. She's been all over the world and worked on so many different rights related projects so it's really interesting to get to hear her stories on it; it's not in a meandering or irrelevant way though, she applies it to what the course lecture topic is about. Each week we have a unit on a different area of human rights; ex. right to health, right to free expression, right to reparations, etc. She makes an effort to be accessible to students and overall you can tell she cares about your success. Great professor all around.

Three assignments: - three page midterm / outline for the final paper (30%) - four page news analysis exercise on media literacy (15%) - final research paper on a human rights topic of your choice (40%) attendance is mandatory and taken at every class (15%)

Widney Brown is such a pleasure to work with and I would recommend this class to anyone. Class structure is lecture on Tuesdays and discussion on Thursdays. Having worked with human rights orgs such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, she is incredibly knowledgeable and presents engaging lectures on a variety of topics from education to bodily autonomy to freedom of expression. She personally provides detailed feedback on every assignment and is more than willing to meet during office hours to help. It's so clear that she genuinely cares about the success of each and every one of her students.

Only assignments are two essays (one of which is an outline for your final paper) and the final paper. Essays are very intuitive and straightforward.

I really valued how Professor Brown was able to tie all the course material into contemporary issues happening right now in the world. The readings were all very up to date and Professor Brown tied every law we learned about to an current day issue. I felt like I was learning a lot every single class. This course exceeded my expectations. Professor Brown is able to combine the course material, current events, her VERY interesting experience as a human rights lawyer, and humour to make her lectures extremely engaging. She is able to talk in front of the class without visuals or presentations but hold everyone's attention and keep students interested.

Midterm (outline of your final paper), New Analysis paper, Final paper, and participation/attendance. Grading is overall pretty easy.

Professor Brown is amazing. I love hearing her stories and all the amazing work she has done. The class is set up so one day is lecture and the next is discussion groups. This is a pretty nice set up and I like hearing what other people have to say. This class will give you a good foundational understanding of human rights and Professor Brown's real life examples bring the theory/rights to life. Would def recommend!
