I learned valuable advocacy strategies for championing children's rights. The course used case studies, articles, key legal documents, and other material to teach us tangible tools for working with and for this population. I learned how to write a variety of advocacy documents (op ed, treaty body submission, letter to a government official, etc.).

HRTS GU4650 · Fall 2024

Learned tangible skills to advocate for children's rights through various avenues, including op-eds, legal reforms, UN mechanisms, etc. All the assignments were very practical and gave a bit of a taste of how we can utilize these various avenues in the future. Additionally, we gained a lot of knowledge about various human rights abuses looking in depth to the details of the problems and the ways these problems are being addressed in different parts of the world.

This class was great at introducing a lot of human rights advocacy skills (using the media, UN mechanisms, mass mobilization, etc.) and showing how they've been used successfully in the past to advocate for children's rights. It was also really helpful at having us think critically about how we could employ these skills to address a specific issue of our choosing.

I learned so many concrete and applicable skills that I now feel like I can use to apply my humanities studies to concrete actionable change. I also gained a better understanding of human rights violations against children as well as a better understanding of the overall framework of the international human rights regime.
