Very easy, exams are all on Zoom, no weekly work aside from discussion post
Traditional workload for a seminar: weekly readings and one final paper + presentation. I think although the paper was long (20 page body) it was good that she had us turn in abstracts by the third week of class, that way it wasn't a scramble during the final weeks of the semester.
Supremely mid. She kind of rambles and just reads off slides. Class was easy though.
If you've ever heard the expression "would you rather have a fish or a fishing pole" don't worry because this class gives you both: a triad of reflective exercises (mirror meditation, video journaling, and meditation) and an new incredibly empowering perspective of how to see the world and people around you that transcends the classroom. Current Topics was extremely transformative and Professor Well organically infused empowering exercises in the realm of self-reflection while exposing us to contemporary research (some of which is her own) about the power of mirror meditation and other reflective exercises such as positive self-talk and journaling. Because this is a small junior/senior seminar, we each got to know each other really well and formed a great class dynamic where we were able to enjoy each other's reflections, insights, and questions. Can't recommend this seminar enough.
60%: Three (50-item) Multi-Choice Exams (20% each exam). 15%: Written Book Review for Attached. 15%: Written Book Review for Mirror Meditation. 10%: Class Participation via Class Discussion Boards. As long as you post on the discussion boards you'll get an 100. Seems everyone got 100s on the book reviews as long as they fit the word count. A 90-100 is allegedly an A, 80-89 a B, etc etc — seems to be no +s or -s
Took this class for one of the psych major requirements for Barnard. Most of the class material was information I had already learned in other psych classes so it felt like a bit of a waste to take this class—it didn't go into a very deep dive into anything. For a class about personality I feel like it didn't talk a lot about personality. It was frustrating especially because the professor read exactly off the slides, which were posted in full on Courseworks. The TA also took very in-depth notes, which were also posted on Courseworks. It felt like there wasn't a reason to come to class because you could have learned it on your own by just reading the slides/TA notes in 30 minutes. It's an easy A but will frustrate you if you actually want to learn anything, just since it's such a surface level lecture class that doesn't really require anything of you at all I did really enjoy reading Attached and recommend that book to anyone, although I didn't like reading Mirror Meditation
I only had to attend lecture and study the week of the exam to earn a high A, and her grading is fair with dropping your lowest exam.
Everyone who is saying it's a hard class or that she's a bad/crazy professor is a weenie. I've taken several classes with Dr. Well and earned an A with only attending class and very minimal studying before exams. She def notices when students are interested or passionate about the topics, and is frequently available for after class help. Psychology of personality was easily one of the best classes I've taken in college both in terms of interesting content + accessibility of the course. Plus, she drops your lowest exam score which is generous. I also took Current Topics in Personality and felt like she created such a safe, mindful, creative classroom for all of us. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Well
Horrible professor! She has this really weird way of lecturing where she'll have an outline that she posts on canvas and then she'll like barely follow the outline and will be all over the place. She doesn't really wait for students to write things down and she blazes through the content. Very much the type of class where you have to teach yourself the material. She also doesn't take attendance so you don't even have to actually go to the class. Her in-class reviews can sometimes be helpful if you seriously focus and have lots of good questions. She only has three exams in the grade book and she might offer extra credit if you ask for it. If you want more reviews lookup Barbara Woike, she apparently changed her name for some reason.
