Patricia Lindemann

This class is fine BUT those quizzes are incredibly stressful. You basically need to know every other sentence in the textbook in order to do well, and the readings can pile up if ur not on top of ur shit. Prof. Lindemann is pleasant and entertaining but she will go into the crowd and call on people, so be warned. Pros - no midterm and decently easy final. Cons - more workload than anticipated.

Honestly, everyone told me not to take this class and I have no idea why. Prof. Lindemann is a funny, engaging lecturer who knows her stuff. Her expectations for students are clear, and exams are totally reasonable (and open book). She is good at explaining concepts, and always seemed happy to answer questions. Highly recommend!

I would avoid her at all costs. The best thing I can say about this course is the textbook is awesome. It is informative and well structured. The TA's can be nice, and I was fortunate to have a good one, but they grade harshly. Their grading is unfair. It can at times be technically correct when they mark you down, but often times it is done when any fair and rational person would have said the totality to the answer was accurate. What is very disturbing to me about the testing, grading and the professor are the following two things: 1) Exams are never returned, hence you can never learn from your mistakes. You get 5 minutes to look them over. If you didn't know it for the quiz/exam/midterm you should go back and review all material until you fix the unknown problem? The TA's at Lindemann's direction, act in a pejorative way. Harshly grading and no opportunity to learn from your mistakes. 2) At the end of the semester I brought two specific items from the exam and the midterm, that I and others remembered were marked down in contravention to her teachings during the year, to Professor Lindemann for review, she did the following: Claimed she didn't have any of the tests from the semester. Could not produce any of the blank tests. Would not look for any of the blank tests. Claimed her computer was broken. Made no attempt to meet at a later date with the actual exams in hand. Dis…

You're probably reading this because you need to get that science requirement out of the way--WW1101 is one of the better choices, Lindemann one of the better (read: less bad) teachers. The class itself itself is deceptively easy. There are three non-cumulative (!) exams. Each one is split into two parts worth equal amounts: multiple choice + free response, with MC drawn from the text, free response from lecture. Supposedly. The truth is it's all in the book. For the first test I attended all the lectures and skimmed the book and got a C. For the next I skipped the lectures but knew the book well and got an A+. Causation, no. But an interesting correlation. That's something I learned from the book. You'll notice that I largely ignored Lindemann in this review. That's because, as annoying as she is, she doesn't matter. This class is about you and your book. Know the book and you'll get an A.

Contrary to the other reviewers, I think 1490 is alot of fun. The material is really interesting, I think my father will never be convinced that there is no such thing as a hot hand or streak shooting in basketball, depite the psych literature, but Im gonna enjoy trying to convince him. The readings make you think about the world around you, the labs give you a chance to be scientific, play researcher, explore cutting-edge topics pretending you have an endless grant. And Trisha, a sweet woman, who explains complex topics very simply, if you took a previous thinking and decision-making course, or any of the cognition courses the topics shouldnt be completely unfamiliar and she and the TA wre more than willing to stay late, reply to emails, or repeat material the next class if people were confused. Trisha's research in the field is very interesting, i think one of the best classes was when she talked about her theories and let us be her guinea pigs. Also, register with your friends! you are the subjects in alot of the work you do, trust me youll want more data, the more ppl in the class, the more you can do. Whether youre headed to business sch (behavioral economics is discussed) or a psych PhD program, or you just plain want to know how ppl think ( and come up with some theories about how to manipulate them) this is a valuable class, and NOT TOO MUCH WORK for the 4 pnts.

This class was fine as long as you attended the lectures and do the homework readings. Lindemann herself explains the concepts well during lecture, but she is not the most accessible or organized outside of class. She consistently forgets to upload the homeworks (the practice quizzes) and assignments, which just leads to panic and confusion. She also returns the quizzes (which are multiple choice) and graded assignments very late. We are forced to wait 3+ weeks in some cases. But if you just do the work as you are assigned, the class is fine, just tedious to deal with.

All assignments, papers, and exams are graded by the Grad TA of whatever lab section you're enrolled in, so the lab section you choose will heavily impact your grade in this course. Pretty par for the course tbh, but probably good to note nonetheless.

I had her for a thinking and decision making lab. Thank god the lectures were posted online, her 2-hr a week class was enough to make you wish you want to cry and/or hit things. I swear I didn't learn anything during lecture that I couldn't have taught myself. The lab assignments are also totally unrelated to anything that goes on in class, but you're expected to learn things for lab on your own anyway. The class requires a lot of patience and a really good TA. Don't study too much for it, you'll just be mad at yourself if you do (and you'll probably do worse).

The class lectures and labs can be hard to sit through, and the exams and labs cover a lot of ground, but Dr. Lindemann is a very nice woman and an easy, easy grader. Note: you can get by with doing only a fraction of the readings, which is good because few students could manage the assigned load. This isn't a great class, but it isn't terrible either.

I hated this class and genuinely left with nothing. Ask me one thing about psych rn and I couldn't tell you. Her lecturing is boring and the fact that it's mandatory attendance makes me not ever want to attend. She has 5 graded quizzes but you get a cheat sheet for each of them so you're not really expected to memorize anything but they're all multiple choice so either you get it or you don't. We got 6 sheets (front and back so 12 pages total) for the final. I much preferred it because it was free response so you had a chance to actually show your understanding.
