What students said

ECON UN3025 · Spring 2024

ECON UN3412 · Spring 2023

All the Econometrics courses share the exact same PSETs, so you can work with peers in any section and attend any TA Office Hours and Recitations. Grading is pretty straightforward. There are 8 PSETs worth a combined 35% of your grade, and 5% "Participation Homework" which are all on STATA. You can work in groups, so PSETs wouldn't take longer than 3-4 hours a week. Tests are also pretty standard if you do the practice exams and go to the review session.

ECON UN3025 · Spring 2024

This course was a great introduction to the vast majority of topics in finance, and does a great job of reaching depth and breadth.

ECON UN3412 · Spring 2023

Professor Gashaw gets too much criticism for this course. Econometrics is a challenging topic, but it is also kind of intuitive. If you show up to lecture, ask questions, and go to recitation, this class is pretty manageable! The course naturally covers a lot of topics, but he communicates the content in a digestible way. He writes on his iPad with a calligraphy pen that can be difficult to read at times, but it is not too bad.

ECON UN3025 · Spring 2024

Portfolio construction and security pricing. I think this course is very correlated to real-life trading. I enjoyed this course a lot and learnt a lot.

ECON UN3412 · Spring 2023

I feel like Professor Gashaw gets a lot of hate for no reason! I actually thought that he presents the concepts clearly and the PSETs were great for learning and not overly difficult (except for PSET 5, that one was really hard.) He also cares a lot about his students and puts a lot of effort into finding exam times and formats that worked for everyone. My only complaint was that (on Zoom) he used a wide calligraphy-type pen that was harder to read than a simple pen style would have been.

ECON UN3025 · Spring 2024

I learned the basics of the financial market.

ECON UN3412 · Spring 2023

How to conduct various regressions; how to interpret, verify and critique data and statistics.

ECON UN3025 · Spring 2024

During this course I learned how to actively manage an investment fund. We learned about equity, debt, and derivatives.

ECON UN3025 · Spring 2024

I learned the basics of the financial markets. The formulas that are used in managing an investment portfolio and how to use excel to determine these calculations.
