This course is super valuable to add an additional layer of knowledge to each student. Knowledge about communicating data and statistics. I learnt how to convey data and statistics effectively to different audiences. In addition, I expanded my horizon in communication and journalism from the talking of various guest speakers.

how to communicate data/numbers in a variety of settings.

It was so pleasing to see other forms of data communication!! In the past few semesters, I've been shown of data mostly in word descriptions, charts, or visualization. Mark's course really helps to open the perspective and get to see all the various formats of visualize/audiolize data!

I learned many new ways of communicating statistical ideas, including knew mediums with which to deliver the info, and new techniques to make that delivery better for the consumer.

I learned the basics of computational journalism and how can it be applied to the stories we work in.

I learned different ways to incorporate data in journalistic writing.

I learned a lot about coding in Python, statistics and data analysis. I also learned a lot about what is considered "computational journalism" and the many different ways you can do it and/or approach it. In the intersection of those two things, I also feel I learned a lot of the way of thinking that is necessary for coding. We learned a decent amount of history of the field as well.

I learned to re-wire by brain and think in terms of data. I was able to be exposed to a lot of new skills and resources to improve my reporting.
