This class is okay overall. I do not love language classes and you def have to speak in this class, she mostly just calls on you (you don't really raise your hand) but I feel like it is mostly not judgmental when you get things wrong. She is a bit disorganized which can be annoying because you are not totally sure of what is due when. The class focuses a lot on really specific grammar rules which can be difficult, especially if your understanding of English grammar is not great (like me lol). Also, there is a pretty strict absence policy.
Karen is truly an amazing French teacher. She understands HOW to teach everything in an accessible way for everyone, especially as there are differing levels in the class. She truly wants everyone to succeed and will do nearly everything to make it happen. I am always hesitant to take language classes because I think they are incredibly anxiety-inducing, but Karen makes class so relaxed so everyone is comfortable to speak. I would 100% recommended anyone to take French with her!
I would definitely recommend this course, it was the best French class I've ever taken (out of 5 years of French) and helped me immensely as well as broadening my understanding of French culture and history. Karen is a wonderful teacher. She is tough and won't put up with any bullshit but she will help you improve your french like no other. She encourages you to speak, won't give you straight answers but rather, explain things to you in French or aid you in understanding it on your own. Her critique of speaking and homework is constructive and never hurtful and she is a great, funny woman. If you do the homework and you are willing to learn you will go far in her class with a good grade
