Focused on some books picked out by Professor Green as topical and salient in current research of public opinion. The structure emphasizes close engagement with each text that is refreshing compared to other survey style modules within the department. Crafting a research paper/proposal is also a good opportunity to think creatively on how research can fit in and contribute to wider research.

3-5 articles per week. Exams for each module (three) and a final exam. Three assignments for each module.

We covered five books on the most contemporary models (post-Trump era) attempting to explain American political behaviour - very relevant and insightful

Professor Green is a great professor who joined us from Yale. Very knowledgable on the subject of American Politics (esp elections) and research methods (esp experimental methods), he makes the lectures very interesting with a range of articles from different disciplines of political science (AP, CP, IR). His exams and assignments are easy. That said, you will only cover the very introductory materials. You will have encountered most of the things learnt in this class in intro to statistics. The only new things were in the second half of the class on experimental methods. NB. You will learn R instead of STATA.

A familiarity with the methods and logic behind survey-based political research, an overview of the hot topics in the field right now and the insights in brings to the current political discussion in the US. I have been reminded of the importance and value of hard data, and been able distance myself from the popular rhetoric about polarization to gain a more accurate and complex understanding of the way popular opinion influences the broader political culture in the US.

An overview of contemporary political behaviour and public opinion in AP.

It's a relatively niche course in terms of the content that it covers - I'd highly recommend taking it only if you are interested in contemporary American politics/ have a background in it

I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to get a better sense of AP or a general survey of political behaviour and opinion.
