A walkthrough of RStudio to perform regression analysis, reemphasis of the material covered in class (the fundamentals of unbiased causal inference, randomization, non-interference, excludability, different types of experiments (field, survey, lab, etc.), non-human subject research, and IRB human subject requirements certificate)
As much as I learned useful information about experimentation in political science, I more importantly learned how to think more critically about the world around me. Professor Green was great and showing us the implications of what we learned in the real world.
Basic use of R and RStudio, as well as experimental methodology.
I learned how to use R and other methodological analytical tools
The course involves designing experiments, selecting appropriate samples, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing valid conclusions. We learned the importance of randomization, control groups, and statistical inference in conducting rigorous experiments. We also explore ethical considerations in experimental research and how to address potential sources of bias.
I learned the fundamentals of experimental research, including (but not limited to) the three core assumptions for unbiased inference, basic functions of R, how to estimate an average treatment effect, and how to analyze a regression output.
The course is extremely boring and could honestly be taught in two weeks time max. Even a course entirely about R would be more engaging than this. Only took it for the Political Science requirement, would only tell someone to take it for that reason.
A poly-sci stats elective that is not too math or STEM heavy.
I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in gaining a solid foundation in political science experimental research and developing the skills needed to conduct rigorous experiments in this field.
