How to evaluate and interogate East Asian music effectively. This skill has expanded my understanding of music and its cultural aspects. I now feel more confident in discussing and applying East Asian musical elements in various contexts.

Basics of Indian Classical Music, and music as an object and culture. I have a decent understanding of how to enjoy Indian Classical Music and appreciate the exposition of the Raags.

I learned a lot about different cultures, practices, and how to identify different musical forms in Southeast Asia.

The course is 90% India. 2 lectures on Pakistan, 1 on Afghanistan, and 1 on the Levant/Morocco. Not super music-theory based, more culture.

Ferguson is a well-seasoned prof who's now adjunct. I can't speak for the course taught by other profs.

This course was amazing and the professor was very knowledgeable and an entertaining storyteller! The only problem was that the "West Asia" part of the course was almost entirely dropped. I learned a lot about technical terms of Indian classical music, how it looks in practice and the various instruments with which it is performed. The class structure is very smooth and you learn at your own pace.

I learned about ethnomusicology specific to india and west asia.
