Physical Education · Columbia University
Grade solely based on attendance and participation (just show up, do the poses, and you'll pass). You only need to attend like 18 out of 24 classes, so you don't have to show up for the last 6 classes.
Loved her, the class isn't too difficult, but still pushes you. Def recommend
Super easy course and I feel like I learned a lot about my movements.
I recommend taking this at the earliest time offered. This is one of the chillest and "easiest" physical ed. classes to take. It's literally just basic yoga poses (best is child's pose). The only nitpicky thing is that you literally cannot be late and we were not allowed to have our phones next to us when I took the course.
There are 24 classes and you have to attend at least 18 of them. I ended up attending 22 out of the 24 because I loved the class and wanted to keep going even once I had fulfilled the requirement. The grade is Pass/Fail based on attendance and participation. You do need to participate in all the exercises, but she offers a lot of modifications if you are having trouble. It is completely possible to fully participate in the class even if you start as a total Pilates beginner (which I did!) but it will definitely be challenging, especially at the beginning. Take this course if you are looking for a Phys Ed course that will challenge you and push you, but will also be really rewarding and enjoyable.
Had her for pilates mat. She's a great teacher. She has clear expectations for the class (no phones and show up within 5 minutes after class begins - like the other pe classes expect). She constantly offers alternatives for the movements if the current activity is too hard/easy.
Only attendance based, and you are allowed 6 absences. After you hit a certain number of classes, you can use all of the 6 absences at once and be finished with the class around a month early.
I loved this course (Pilates Mat w/ Cynthia Lanzas)! I went into the class with zero Pilates experience and now, at the end of the course, I have learned so much about Pilates and improved my strength and form so much. Cindy is a wonderful teacher. She has the perfect mixture of offering modifications so you can tailor exercises to your own ability level, while also challenging us and making sure we were keeping up with the class and improving. Our class had a really great environment where we felt comfortable speaking up with questions or concerns and she would answer them thoroughly with care and respect. She is incredibly knowledgeable about Pilates and exercise in general and it really felt like she cared about each and every one of us and our journey with exercise. She knew us all by name, and if she noticed your form was wrong, she would come over and quietly help you fix it without calling the attention of the whole class, which I really respected because I know sometimes large group classes can be intimidating for people. All in all, I loved this class and it really inspired me to keep doing Pilates in the future. Side note: this course has a very strict late policy. The door closes 5 minutes after class starts, so if you're five minutes late or more, you just can't attend class that day. I made it work even though I had a class at Barnard that ended at 12:55 and my se…
A great instructor!! She is (understandably) very over-particular about timeliness, as the class starts on the dot and it is very distracting when people come in late. She is a great yoga instructor, and provides tons of alternative poses if anything doesn't feel great or is hard to do. Please take her if you have the opportunity to do so!! She was also wonderful to get to know outside of class, and I would always chat with her for a little bit after classes.
