Grade solely based on attendance and participation (just show up, do the poses, and you'll pass). You only need to attend like 18 out of 24 classes, so you don't have to show up for the last 6 classes.

i adored this course with karen. she is so nice and encouraging to everybody, and she helps those people who are less flexible without dumbing down the class for people who know what they're doing. this class has been the only thing i consistently looked forward to doing this semester. i highly recommend her.

Sweet lady, good class - I had never practiced yoga in my life and she taught me a fair amount. Strict about being to class on time, but fair because class is pass/fail based on attendance.

Cynthia Lanzas · 2025 · 2025

I recommend taking this at the earliest time offered. This is one of the chillest and "easiest" physical ed. classes to take. It's literally just basic yoga poses (best is child's pose). The only nitpicky thing is that you literally cannot be late and we were not allowed to have our phones next to us when I took the course.

Lisa Northrop · 2018 · 2018

No HW, but you can't miss too many classes because then you don't get credit.

Cynthia Lanzas · 2025 · 2025

Only attendance based, and you are allowed 6 absences. After you hit a certain number of classes, you can use all of the 6 absences at once and be finished with the class around a month early.

Great professor, really sweet. Strict about attendance, but they all are. This class was a lot of fun. I Highly recommend it.

Looking back at the old reviews I wonder if she's changed... She's not a difficult teacher, but she's a very intense person which doesn't lend itself well to yoga in my opinion. She does have a lot of expertise and she'll teach you how to do poses correctly (which is really important so you don't injure yourself), but her attitude towards yoga is strange and didn't really allow the relaxation and mindfulness aspects to come through. She also tends to go on long tangents at the beginning of class which waste time and really weren't valuable for me. I appreciate that she allows you to indicate if you want hands-on adjustments because consent is really important! So kudos to her for that. I have to say I did feel really prepared for taking non-Barnard yoga classes because she spent so much time making sure we were doing poses correctly.

A great instructor!! She is (understandably) very over-particular about timeliness, as the class starts on the dot and it is very distracting when people come in late. She is a great yoga instructor, and provides tons of alternative poses if anything doesn't feel great or is hard to do. Please take her if you have the opportunity to do so!! She was also wonderful to get to know outside of class, and I would always chat with her for a little bit after classes.

She's really nice but can be anal about putting away the mats and props to her specifications. She is an excellent yoga instructor, and if you've never taken yoga before, you'll be fine in this course. She's pretty hardcore about attendance and lateness too...
