This course was an excellent overview of the theory behind sociological data analysis. Not only did we learn the practical skills needed to carry out basic data analysis in R, but we learned the deeper theory behind each step in the process.

The course was an accelerated introduction to applied statistics, including descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and linear regression. We also learned how to perform those procedures in the software R. The class did not include too much probability or mathematical theory, which I did not mind at all, but something to be aware of for students who are seeking that out.
I gained significant knowledge and skills in quantitative methods used in sociology, particularly focusing on data reduction and statistical inference. I learned how to describe data distributions, including their location and spread, using concepts such as mean, variance, and confidence intervals. Additionally, I explored hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and methods for understanding relationships among variables. One of the most valuable skills I acquired was using the statistical software R for practical data analysis. This hands-on experience enhanced my ability to apply statistical methods to real-world sociological data.
It's a nice course to practice R if you are not familiar with it.
