Intermediate Laboratory Work · Physics

Prerequisites: phys UN2601 or phys un2802 Primarily for junior and senior physics majors; other majors must obtain the instructors permission. Each experiment is chosen by the student in…

Who teaches PHYS UN3081

What students said

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

Experimental Setup, Collecting Data, Data Analysis and Erorr Analysis, understanding sources of errors within experiments, linking observed data in the lab to the underlying theories, understanding and resolving discrepancies that arise in experimental work, etc.

Sebastian Will · 2024 · 2024

How to work with programming languages IGOR and Arduino IDE language, learned CAD modeling in Solidworks, learned how to use and Arduino, laser +optics physics, 3d printing, how to debug instrumentation, etc

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

NMR experiment operation. Data processing. Using Latex to draft report

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

Only do it if your major require it, most experimental apparatus are out of date and there are not many

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

How to operate oscilloscopes and write lab reports.

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

Calculating muon lifetime and finding masses of galaxies through gravitational lensing.

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

Depends on the experiment you chose specifically, but learned about the hardware used to conduct higher-level physics experiments

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

I learned how to analyze and collect data.

Elena Aprile · 2026 · 2026

This is not too taxing if you choose the right experiment that doesn't have too much data analysis. It can get time consuming otherwise. However, the Professor and TA's are always there in any case, and will help with anything you need. The experiments are interesting, and you learn a lot.

Elena Aprile · Fall 2022 · 2026

I just can't like performing experiments and I hate that I'm forced to do them. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2022 Course: PHYSUN3081_003_2022_3-INTERMEDIATELABORATORYWORK : PHYSUN3081_003_2022_3 - INTERMEDIATE LABORATORY WORK Instructor: Morgan May
