Methods of Philosophic Thought · Philosophy
I became able to analyze philophers' works from an original perspective.
Learned foundational concepts of philosophy.
I learned a lot in terms of questioning a lot of the fundamental aspects of life. It made me questions a lot of things and allowed me to improve my critical thinking skills.
PHILUN1101 course that really improves one's view of the world and general culture. I think everyone should take this course. it adds a lot to people.
We primarily focused on epistemology and theory of mind
a lot, in terms of philosophy, wish to learn history
I cannot imagine a worse introduction to philosophy. The course completely ignored the essence of the discipline -- its urgency, its meaning, and its relevance to human life -- which, in my view, should be the primary goal of an introductory philosophy course. There was no serious attempt to situate thinkers within their historical context, to explain why their questions mattered, or to connect philosophical inquiry to real-world concerns. Instead, we were presented with scattered fragments and isolated bits of thought, thrown together without coherence or relevance. The result was not only confusion, but also a missed opportunity to inspire intellectual curiosity and to show students how philosophy shapes human thought, society, and life itself. As a prospective philosophy major, I am sorry to say that I was deeply disappointed with my first philosophy course at Columbia.
this course was a waste of my time and i regret not having dropped it
This course is great, very fun/intellectually stimulating without being demanding. Would recommend as an elective for anyone that likes philosophy. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2025 Course: PHILUN1101_001_2025_1-METHODSOFPHILOSOPHICTHOUGHT : PHILUN1101_001_2025_1 - METHODS OF PHILOSOPHIC THOUGHT Instructor: Taylor Pincin
