I learned a lot about different genocides that have occurred in our history.Additionally, I gained insights into various aspects of genocide that had never crossed my mind before. Before enrolling into this course, I thought I had a fairly decent knowledge of the subject and probably wouldn't learn much more, but I was mistaken! There was so much interesting content and readings that significantly broadened my understanding of the subject.

The definitions, history, prime examples, and preventative measures of genocide. I had never taken a course on genocide before, so I am grateful to now feel more familiar with this subject as I continue my human rights education.
I learned how to approach the heavy topic of genocide, the different angles that it can be approached with, and the history of various genocides
I learned so much! This course covers many genocides that have occurred in different places across the globe. It also asks students to think more abstractly about genocide and genocide prevention/anti-genocide practices. It was fascinating and harrowing, to say the least.

The history, origin, and evolution of the concept of genocide. I learned about various instances of genocide. I learned how to usefully apply the concept of genocide.
The content was presented rather than learned, and no genocide was truly explored in-depth. Instead, genocide theory took precedence, but it was not very concrete and only considered in the abstract.
I'd recommend this course to everyone because, in my opinion, we often assume we know a lot about genocide. However, once you take this course, there's so much more to discover. And, Professor Mitoma is incredibly nice, so I definitely recommend it.
