The professor outlined this course in terms of challenges to human rights, which I deeply appreciated. I think there is strong value in critiquing a discipline in order to strengthen it. Broadly, we covered the problems with: the diversity in foundations of human rights, the flaws in the liberal framework of human rights (neutrality, state-centeredness, resistance to group rights, and formalism, and the rise of liberalism.
