I gained a wealth of knowledge on gender issues and gender-based violence. Additionally, I learnt about the origins of the women's movement and its evolution to the present day.

I learned a lot about gender issues, women's rights, and how the gender-based violence that if accumulated would to the death of people due to gender is considered gendercide. It's helpful for students who haven't taken a gender studies class before.

Gender-based violence in relation to human rights violations; the history of this violence and how it manifests in the patriarchy; international institutions and mechanisms that exist to protect women; reproductive and health rights that are being challenged; the history and role of international tribunals and giving testimonies

I learned the basics of gender-based violence and how to understand it through a human rights perspective.

different types and concepts of violence against women, whether private or public, everyday or at war, in relation to international human rights standards. case studies of GBV is different regions. historical background on colonialism/imperialism and their effect on patriarchy/gender views

I would never recommend this class to another student. I wish I had my money and time back.

I don't felt like I learned very much. If someone wanted an introduction to women's rights, I might recommend. But otherwise I didn't feel it was a productive class.

Although I see value in the content of this course, it felt extremely unorganized, and I wish I'd taken a different course instead.

I learned so much. This is my favorite course taken at Columbia. The passion of the professor really shines through in her teaching.
