PSets were time consuming Exams were very straightforward and had no surprises on them.

Quite high, coding assignment each week with ZyBook work as well. However it is spaced fairly and I he gives 4 late days total per semester, of which I only needed to use one.

Six homeworks worth 50% of the grade, more like small projects with both a written and a programming part. A midterm (17%) and a final (33%) both moderatly difficult. Grading is fair, and extra credit opportunites exist.

Ms. Leslie is a very sweet teacher. She's very young, and she's very approachable. She will give you all the time in the world if you need help understanding something. She presents all her lessons well, using powerpoint presentations. Good speaker. I took the class with no programming experience as a freshman, and got an A. I did, however, go to her office hours every week, so she got to know me and I did get extra review. But I wouldn't do the assigned readings, and usually didn't pay good attention in class. Programming is fun, but sometimes frustrating when you don't see your mistake. She will extend deadlines if everyone is behind.

8 homework problems roughly every 2 weeks (except when there's a quiz) and in each one the use of GenAI is fully allowed. 4 quizzes which again are pretty straightforward and closely match the practice material he provides. The final is also interesting. The way it works is there's going to be 5 parts, one of which is the actual final and counts for 10% of your grade. The other 4 parts are basically the quizzes - there'll be questions on exactly the same topics from the quiz which you can reattempt during the final (a list will be provided to you of which questions you need to attempt) and if you score higher on the question in the final, it replaces your score from the quiz.

Prior to my beginning I heard good things about Cannon, and I am happy to say that they're true! His course is very difficult, especially to people without a background in programming but if you put in the time he will assist you in any way he can. Cannon even went above and beyond for me, helping me in a more personal manner.

Janak is by far the best professor I've had at Columbia. Not only did he take the time to learn practically everyone's name, he also was an excellent lecturer. His class is very understandable and helpful in both the basics of computers and in begining to think about how computers operate. As an added bonus, he brought in doughnuts on the day of the final to makeup for the 9:00am exam time.

6 homeworks: 1 due every 2 weeks. (they are long, but doable, so start early) COUNTS AS 50% OF YOUR GRADE SO TAKE THE TIME TO DO THEM WELL!!!! One midterm: 15% of grade and the final: 35% of grade. Fair tests.

Prof Murphy is super understanding, has very lenient grading policies, and it feels like he genuinely wants us to do well. His quizzes are not too hard, and he always provides enough practice material that very closely matches the stuff on the quiz so you know what to expect. He also does a great job of explaining Java concepts and I really enjoyed his class. All lectures are also recorded. Overall just a really nice understanding guy, great professor, and this class felt like a breeze thanks to Prof Murphy's teaching style.
