A Comprehensive Introduction to Sigmund Freud’s Theories: The Origins of Psychoanalytic T · Institute For Comparative Literature And Society
I learned about different Freud texts and their applications to the humanities and psychoanalytic practice today.
Overview of Freud and his works, the contexts in which he can be applied, and how to more deeply interpret the psychoanalytical approach to history
A ton of information about Freud and psychoanalysis, how Freud continues to be relevant today, how Freud's thought was and continues to be applied in clinical settings.
I received a working familiarity with Freud's oeuvre, and a better, more intuitive sense of how the logic underpinning his thought might be applied to a wider variety of critical discourses.
Broad overview of Freud's thinking, complex ideas from a variety of clinicians who read Freud clinically, historically, theoretically, and as literature. The opportunity to discuss theory and raise questions surrounding the status of Freud's ideas today.
I can't think of a better way to be introduced to Freud. The only issue is that, if someone is (as I am) very worried about their GPA, then I would not be sure whether I'd recommend it to them given that I am not sure how strict the grading is. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Fall 2022 Course: CLPSGU4200_001_2022_3-FREUD : CLPSGU4200_001_2022_3 - FREUD Instructor: William Tomlinson
A variety of topics that Freud wrote about
Excellent overview of many of Freud's major works in historical context - course offers a balanced and thoughtful perspective
In this course we covered the fundamentals of Freud. I learned to think more analytically and to encounter his corpus with less bias. The instructors, as well as the visiting instructors, did a good job of providing frameworks and scaffolding.
This course does a good job at walking you through the long arc of Freud's work, even thought it does not even attempt to be comprehensive (which is impossible given the constraints of time).
