Supervised Independent Res · Chemistry
There is no 'class,' this is conducting independent research. I went in person to the lab to continue working on a project that I had begun the year before. In that sense, I built my laboratory skills.
I learned research techniques in chemistry. I was able to continue my research and receive credit for it.
Pandemic is obviously not optimal conditions for in-person research but my PI made it work. 1 Columbia University: Arts & Sciences Spring 2021 Course: CHEMUN3098_001_2021_1-SUPERVISEDINDEPENDENTRES : CHEMUN3098_001_2021_1 - SUPERVISED INDEPENDENT RES Instructor: Vesna Gasperov
I learned more about my selected research field.
Helpful research class allowing you to work on your lab research without saddling you with unnecessary extra work. And the lab presentation at the end is fun.
I learned about how to write IRB protocol, participant recruitment, conducting interviews, data collection, data analysis, manuscript writing, and leading a poster presentation.
This is a great experience for anyone interested in research and will serve you in any career through constructing, planning and presentation a project from start to finish.
multistep organic synthesis, TLC, Mass Spec, use of seperatory funnel, flash chromatography, 1H NMR, laboratory technology (reaxys, chemtracker, chemdraw),
Proposals & presentations, and regular research
I have learned so much from this course, I have received so much mentorship and I am so grateful for the opportunity.
