I learned how to write a formal lab report as well as laboratory safety/procedure and the scientific background for many of the instruments we used.
Standard analytical chemistry techniques
Within this course I learned more about lab etiquette, equipment, techniques, and working with a team.
I learned a significant amount about the various procedures used in the chemistry lab.
How to write very long and detailed lab reports
We learned the theory behind and operation of techniques commonly used in chemistry, such as mass spectroscopy, FTIR, etc.
I would recommend this course as I think you do learn more in depth and more practical applications of general Chemistry knowledge as well as devices but if you have to take it online keep in mind that you won't really learn as much because it obviously won't be hands on.
This would shift up to a "I'm not sure I'd recommend" with in person labs.
The class is very typing heavy, but granted there is no true benchtop work. Unsure if workload would have shifted if in person
Rubrics for lab report expectations were not shared, and points were deducted for missing very specific items/sentences. Contradictory information on when/what should be submitted was given out on a weekly basis. Overall, the execution of the course was not very well organized, even if the content itself was.
